4.    Discuss two functions and precautions in a PN solution of the following: amino acids (AA), intravenous lipid emulsion (ILE), Dextrose (D), and glycerol.

5.    Discuss four considerations unique to using PN for infants.

6.    Describe three precautions for an adult who is nutritionally at risk starting on EN/PN feedings.

7.    Describe the nutritional considerations in an infant or adult on EN/PN for the following: carnitine, iron, thiamine, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, vitamin D, vitamin K, fiber, and MCT.

8.    Give four PN guidelines for safely beginning, tapering and preventing refeeding syndrome.

9.    Discuss two considerations when regulating fluid intake when a person is on PN.

10.  Describe the training needed to become a privileged PN provider, PN bedside nurse, or dietitian order writer.

11.  Describe the precautions for safely starting home parenteral nutrition (HPN).

12.  Describe the recommended nutrition therapy guidelines for monitoring PN and HPN.
